Botswana Northern Explorer
15 Day Safari
ITINERARY
Day One
Arrival in Kasane Botswana, on the Chobe River. Overnight in lodge including lunch, dinner and boat cruise.
Day Two – Three
Depart Kasane to our camping area along the Chobe River. Game viewing en route to camp. Explore the game trails and tracks in the area in search of elephant, lion, hippo, crocodiles, leopard, giraffe, buffalo and antelope. There are many species of birds to be found here. During the safari, breakfast, brunch and dinner will be prepared in camp by your camp staff.
We spend two nights at this camp, time to follow animal activities through the surrounding areas.
Day Four – Five - Six
Leave the Chobe River and travel south through the Park and local villages, our route following the forest reserve to Savuti. We spend three nights here, giving us time to seek out game – zebra, wildebeest, elephant and lions being possible. All meals, tea and coffee are provided in camp. You need only carry snacks of your personal choice during the safari.
Day Seven - Eight
From Savuti we travel southwards 65 kilometres before reaching Mababe exit gate. We can expect game viewing along much of the way and thus give ourselves at least 3 hours for this drive. From Mababe, we cross the sand ridge and head towards Moremi Game Reserve. On reaching the Kwhai River, good game is often encountered and we will stop for a picnic lunch along the way. We reach camp mid-afternoon after a drive of about 6 hours. You have time to freshen up and relax before the evening outing along the Kwhai River floodplain.
This little river provides excellent opportunities to view hippos close-up and find lions prowling the tracks in search of prey. We will cross into the Moremi Park over the log bridge – "Bridge over the River Kwhai".
Day Nine – Ten - Eleven
We move from the Kwhai River area of the Reserve and travel through to Xakanaxa camping area – this site is along the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta and while here we will have time to go out on motorised boat to view the channels and islands. This region of the Reserve is the most scenic, with small pools and dams of clear water hosting hippos, crocodiles, predators and prey. Lion, cheetah, wild dog and leopard are present throughout the region and we will have chances to see the spotted hyena near camp at night. We stay in this area for three nights.
Day Twelve
After breakfast, we again leave camp and travel out through the Reserve towards the town of Maun. Dinner and breakfast are included at the lodge where we overnight.
Day Thirteen - Fourteen
We travel in to the Okavango Delta where you have time to go on guided walks on the islands, cruise the quiet channels in a traditional dugout canoe (mekoro) and relax in camp. All meals and activities are included.
Day Fifteen
Return to Maun and after lunch connect with your onward travel plans
